As artist members of MamaCita we strive to exist as individual, independent artists while benefiting from the strength and collaborative spirit of our group. MamaCita's mission states that "...our goal is to offer constructive critique and encouragement, and ultimately, to inspire and motivate". (W)holon is a direct example of our mission in action. Each artist member created several smaller works which are exhibited together as a whole. Each member also created one new, stand-alone piece that represents their current individuality as an artist. While preparing this exhibit, we were struck by the diversity of our work and how, despite this (or perhaps because of it), the work meshed as a complete, successful piece. This work authenticates our philosophy that MamaCita is a collection of individual artists/mothers working as a whole while also functioning as part of the artist community. We are a part, within a part, within a whole and we believe that, because of this, we are each stronger.
