FringArts Save the Date
One Year

Mark your calendar for a monumental iteration of our One Year project, debuting at The Rotunda during the FringeArts Festival, September 7, 2013!

One Year
This show is a new interpretation of the artists' critically acclaimed exhibit about urban violence that was last installed at the Painted Bride in January, 2013.

One Year is a visually stunning art installation of 331 wire vessels—one for each murder in Philadelphia in 2012. The hundreds of handcrafted sculptures are suspended from a 15-foot tall structure and cast dynamic shadows against fabric panels. [cut?] The Sanctuary at the Rotunda, which is not usually open to the public, has an 80-foot diameter dome, wooden floors and incredible acoustics, providing a distinctive, majestic site for this art.

Join us for short performances on Saturday September 7 and Saturday September 21: spoken word, singing, and drumming will compel the audience to grieve, remember, and honor each unique victim.

One Year was created by Janice Hayes-Cha, Brenda Howell, Julie Mann, Karen Hunter McLaughlin and Kimberly Mehler and is a yearlong art installation and mentoring project in partnership with the violence prevention organization Mothers In Charge . It is funded in part by a Leeway Foundation Art and Change Grant.

FREE at The Sanctuary at The Rotunda, 4014 Walnut Street, Philadelphia, PA Performances: September 7 and 21 at 6:30 pm.
Art Installation will also be open weekends on September 7-8, 12-15 and 19-20 from 6-8 pm.
